Fire Mitigation Efforts Rewarded

A big thank you to our Fire Mitigation Team, James Eanes, Bob Newcomer, and Eric Keck. Due to their tireless efforts and devotion of time to organizing, writing and completing grant requirements, and working with residents to reduce the wildfire risk in Sheep Creek, once again we have been awarded the Firewise certificate.

Fire-wise-Certificate

⭐You may be able to receive a discount on your homeowner’s insurance if you let them know that you live in a Firewise community.

Wondering what our Scholarship Committee has been doing?

As always, our Scholarship Committee has been busy behind the scenes boosting our local teachers.

Not only does our Scholarship Committee deliver the three scholarships to our area high schools each year, but throughout the school year, they continue to support our community with their time and thoughtfulness. And, they do it in the name of Sheep Creek.

This fall they delivered goodies and cheer to our Antonito schools. Cookies, veggies, and fruit were delivered to the staff. Kleenex tissue, toilet paper, and Clorox wipes were given to each classroom.

They also received a $500 donation from Community Banks in LaJara!

Thank you, Vicki Bader, Debra Crowe, Mary Thorne, and Debra Castro! Your time, efforts, and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated.

Location of SC AED’s

Greetings fellow Sheep Creek residents,

As you may recall our LOA purchased two Phillips AED’s (defibrillators) to be available to our residents if needed.

I recently contacted Phillips and asked how we should protect the AED from the inevitable cold weather we have here. They advised that in order to guarantee a strong battery charge we should take them in during the cold season.

Therefore, NEAL LUMMUS and RICH CONNELL have agreed to take possession of the AEDs until next spring or early summer when we have warmer temperatures and they can then be placed in the outside AED boxes.

If an emergency occurs and you need the use of an AED they are NOW located at (October 24, 2021):

Lummus home, 637 River Run Dr.

Connell home, 62 River Run Dr.

Thank You, Barb and Debra!

During Labor Day Weekend, Barb Forrest and Debra Crowe hosted an Art Sale on Barb’s front porch right by the main gate. If you haven’t seen any of Barb’s beautiful paintings of Sheep Creek or Deb’s inspired jewelry, take a look at the flier below of the event for a quick glimpse.

Sheep Creek Art Sale

Barb and Deb very generously donated a portion of their sales to the Sheep Creek Scholarship Fund. Not only was the Art Sale a very fun event, but these two talented Sheep Creek artists contributed $1,200 of their sales!

Thank you, Barb and Deb for your time, effort, and your talents as well as this very generous contribution to our Sheep Creek Scholarship Fund.

Weather Station update

The weather station is up and working great.  The Camera is in the process of being replaced so for your viewing pleasure and just a little laugh, you get to see the river at a different angle!!  Thanks again for your patience. The camera will be upright again soon!

Key Things to know about COVID-19 Vaccines

FAQ’s about COVID 19 Vaccines

This message is being sent to you by Conejos County Public Health.

As we are experiencing a rise in our positive cases in Conejos County we ask that you spread the word for these testing clinics. (Attachment)  The SLV has one of the highest positivity rates in the state right now. The providers listed below also continue to offer vaccines. Online signup links for these providers can be found at www.slvphp.com.
If you have symptoms of COVID-19, you can also get tested through our regular testing providers besides these two testing clinics:
  • Rio Grande Hospital 719-657-4990
  • SLV Health Respiratory Clinic 719-589-3000 ext. 9
  • Valley-Wide Health Systems 719-589-3658 ext. 4 (M-F), 719-589-2562 (Sa/Su)
We would also like to remind you to continue safe practices of wearing masks, social distancing, and proper handwashing.  There has been a trend in our community to get a little lax in these practices and we want to get our County back to a healthier state and stop the spread.
