Following the flooding on Friday and Saturday, October 23rd and 24th, the rains have stopped, and the Conejos River has subsided. There is a low chance of more rain this afternoon. I know many of you are concerned about your homes and our community, and I want to keep you informed as we learn more.
We were very fortunate that no severe damage to cabins has been reported. Based on the information gathered so far, approximately five homes have water in their basements, crawl spaces, or garages.
You can check the river level anytime through our live camera at sheepcreek.org/weather.
- Road conditions and access
Roads within Sheep Creek are in rough condition but remain passable. Please use caution when traveling through the community.
The latest notice we received indicated that Highway 17 is open to residents. You may need to show proof of residency, so please have it available if you plan to travel to Sheep Creek.
- Continue using bottled or boiled water
To ensure the flooding has not affected our community water system, we are conducting additional bacteriological testing
at various points throughout the system.
Until testing is complete and we notify you that the restrictions have been lifted, please continue to use bottled water or boil water before consumption.
We will keep you informed of the testing results and let you know when these precautions are no longer necessary.
- Staying in touch
I will share frequent updates by email, on our website at sheepcreek.org, and in our Sheep Creek Facebook group.
If you have questions, concerns, or information to share about your property, please contact me anytime by text or phone call at 713-385-3933.
Thank you for your patience and for looking out for one another. Our Sheep Creek community means so much to all of us, and I’m grateful for the care our neighbors show each other.
